If you have signed up to receive our advocacy notices through Arizonans for Fair Contracting (AFC) or are following our weekly “Advocacy Brief” each Monday, you are aware that SB1271 was heard and passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee with a vote of 7-0-0 on February 21. This included one amendment sponsored by Judiciary Committee Chair Sen. Eddie Farnsworth. Since that date the bill has moved through additional phases of the legislative process and we are hopeful that the bill will be voted on by all 30 members of the Senate as soon as next week.
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE! We are asking you to invest your time in helping us push SB1271 forward. Your participation matters!
We anticipate that SB1271 will receive a Third Read Vote on Thursday, March 7. We will confirm the date and time as soon as possible. WE NEED YOU TO JOIN US at the State Capitol to show legislators how important proportional liability is to Arizona’s trade contractors! Bring your field employees, as many as possible, and do your best to arrive in safety vests or safety color company shirts. We want to stand out!
Here is the schedule; please be sure to give yourself ample time to arrive early and find parking:
12:30-1:00: Arrive at the Capitol and look for ASA/AFC volunteers in the quad on the east side of the Capitol; surface parking is available on the east and west sides of the complex.
1:00-1:15: We need all of our supporters to be in the Senate Gallery and seated. The Gallery normally fills up quickly, so arrive early enough to get a seat. Our goal is to fill every seat! There are some protocols for special guests and special needs visitors, so please be mindful of any seating direction you may get from Senate security.
1:30: Senate floor session will convene.
Prior to the bill being Third Read, we ask that you send a quick email to your Senator, identifying yourself as a constituent in their district, and asking them to support the proportional liability bill SB1271. You can quickly and easily email your legislators (and look them up if you aren’t sure who they are) via the Arizonans for Fair Contracting website. It’s quick and easy, and five minutes of your time can make a world of difference.
