As you know, the American Subcontractors Association of Arizona, Inc. is dedicated to protecting the rights of every specialty contractor and supplier in the state. This year, ASA’s legislative efforts have again been focused on addressing unfair indemnity requirements in private construction contracts. If you have been tracking our activity through “Arizonans for Fair Contracting,” you know we have a great legislative champion in Senator Karen Fann and have made a significant impression on members of both the Arizona State Senate and House of Representatives. Thanks to all of you who have shared your stories, contacted legislators, and joined us at two very successful events at the Capitol. You are AWESOME!
Fighting for change in the law can be a long and expensive endeavor – only well-funded organizations ever have impact on legislation. ASA needs your financial support to develop the resources necessary to continue our efforts to affect change. Asking for money and fundraising can be a daunting task, but since it is a necessity to continue our efforts on behalf of our members and the Arizona construction community, we may as well have a little FUN in the process.
With fun in mind, we are holding our first NON-EVENT during the month of April – a tongue-in-cheek fundraiser with a new twist – the 1st Annual Big Kahuna Classic Surf Competition in the Desert. No beach, no board, no problem! Instead of dragging you to an event and, yet another, rubber chicken dinner you’d rather avoid, our request is simple: stay home, relax, and instead donate equal to what you would spend to attend or sponsor an “in-person” event to enter our fantasy surf competition.
We’ll even give you a cool surfer name and post how gnarly you are on our special “non-event” web page as an important somebody who’s NOT attending. Get it now? Life is way too serious and we all work too hard not to have a little fun. Surf’s up! With just a few clicks of your mouse, you can be as gnarly as Scott “White Lightening” Petre (fearless into the big tubes); Chuck “DuBull” Haskins (big dude for a short board); or Clint “Ain’t Over till it’s Over” Overton (believes in ridin’ it to the beach). Who’s your inner dude … or dudette?
Every donation makes a difference! You can make your donation and “officially enter” the Big Kahuna Classic on our secure website at www.asa-az.org using your credit card – just look for the lawn chair and beach umbrella. Donations may be made with either personal or corporate funds since this is not a PAC fundraiser. We are thinking BIG, like a monster wave, but any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated.
We will also have a Big Kahuna Classic table on Hole #7 at our golf tournament tomorrow to accept your donation or pledge. Thanks for your support … and hang loose!
